Thread 1- inform that Trailblazing…
<scottalap> Admin: Why don’t you tell Eyewirers, in advance, when they are trailblazing a cube?
<r> below is an eyewirer who mentors others… Her accuracy is 99.8%
<r> would it make a difference in how you played it?
<r> hi
<scottalap> Yes
<r> how so?
<f> the cubes are assigned randomly the first one done with highest accuracy gets the tb. we need accuracy
<r> perhaps all cubes should be played with the same care you would give if you were trailblazing.
<scottalap> Knowing that one is the trailblazer indicates no other human has worked the neuron trail
<R> How do I get cubes to trailblaze?
<> Trailblazing means you are the first one to submit this specific cube. You’ll get 50 points for it and more after 3 players have played it.

a> i know ever cube is new for me its like opening a package never know what i’ll find

<scottalap> Changes one’s mental perspective… Still thinking through this issue. My intuition suggests that I would be more careful with trailblazing and, one was not in the mood, one could
<scottalap> skip the cube

<fa> maybe that is part of”why” you don’t know . we need every cube traced many times for consensus- different people find things missed like branches
js
<scottalap> Thx rinda for the feedback… Fascinating ciitizen science you all have initiated. I have highly recommended it to my machine language and neuroscience associates
r> you are welcome! I know it does make a difference. level of fatigue, distractions, whether or not my coffee has made it all the way down to my fingertips… all are things that

Thoughts:  It’s all about motivating people to play and play well.  The more control one has over what cubes play the better… and the more feedback

later in chat: <KagSa> trailblazeing needs some times?
<n> Trailblazing means you are the first one to submit this specific cube. You’ll get 50 points for it and more after 3 players have played it.
<n> You must have at least 80% accuracy to qualify. You won’t know you’ve trailblazed a cube until you’ve submitted it.
New Thread:  Q-  incentivizing eyewirers with money
r: have you thought of incentivizing eyewirers with money… most accurate, highest performers…?
<scottalap> rlinda: have you thought of incentivizing eyewirers with money… most accurate, highest performers…?
<r> heh- not enough money!
<Lgchinadragon> I thought so.. I mean, research funding can only go so far, right?
benficus earned 926 points
twister2 earned 1002 points from trailblazing
<scottalap> Have you done a cost benefit analysis?
<r> There are people in the lab who do this (and other things) for money. Some are grad students.
<r> Have you seen how many p[layers there are? and how much data needs to be processed?
<vague_nomen> I don’t think money is necessary, but what about asking Amazon to donate gift cards/discount codes for top performers?
<scottalap> That’s what I thought… if so, why not extend to eyewirers.
<K> what a endless work!
<f> we always need better computers
<r> like I said, impossible goal.
<r> so we play for fun!
<r> and for bragging rights.
<f> the best players can become members of admin if you have the skills look at jobs and apply !
<scottalap> Your project is so important and has implications for not only research but also machine language/AI… Lots of commercial companies putting money towards thsi
<rinda> and it is fun, and we have a wonderful community of players.
<Varppi> for fun and for science
<scottalap> You could have Google, Facebook, Microsoft etc. competing to sponsor the best players and the algorithms that the best players could help to improve
<r> If you have specific ideas that you think have not been adequately explored, (after checking out the wikki, the blog and the forum) I’m sure admin would love to see them! you can
<r> send them to support@eyewire.org
<scottalap> Will do… Thx again for the quick feedback… Have a great day!
